How to Prepare for a DEXA Scan

You have booked your DEXA scan, but what does a person need to do before to prepare?

Nomad Fit Lab strives to ensure getting a DEXA scan with us is a simple, and uncomplicated process. As part of that, we only have a few recommendations for you to consider prior to your appointment at one of our locations.

Because a DEXA scan requires you to lay down for about 10 minutes, we suggest you wear comfortable clothes that do not have metals such as zippers or buttons. Metals can alter the accuracy of your DEXA scan, so we will also ask you to remove any metallic jewelry and accessories to ensure you receive the most accurate scan possible.

Additionally, individuals who have had previous surgeries or medical procedures involving metal implants may also need to consult with their doctor before undergoing a DEXA scan.

Beyond apparel, we like to remind people to not drink excessive amounts of water or drinks before your scan, and to avoid taking calcium supplementation 24 hours before your scan. These too can impact the accuracy of your results, so make sure to plan your scan at a time where you will be most comfortable and able to be prepared.

Remember, our goal is to help you achieve your fitness goals and improve your overall health through bone density scans. In less than 15 minutes you can have a full-body health scan that provides body fat measurements and body composition testing. Our scans can also help assess any risk for osteoporosis.

We can't wait to help you on your journey towards a healthier you! Remember to take care of yourself before the scan and don't hesitate to contact our team with any questions or concerns you may have. We look forward to seeing you at your next appointment!
