What to Expect from a DEXA Scan
What to expect when having a DEXA scan?
A bone density test, also known as a DEXA scan, is a simple and non-invasive procedure used to assess the strength and density of your bones. During the test, you'll be asked to lie on a padded table while a scanner passes over your body.
The process is painless and usually takes about 10 minutes to complete. We have some great tips and recommendations for how to prepare for your next DEXA scan. The results can help your doctor diagnose osteoporosis or assess your risk for fractures, which is crucial for determining appropriate treatment and preventive measures.
After arriving to our mobile location, you are invited in to prepare by removing any metallic jewelry or accessories. Then you will remove your shoes, lay back on the bed of the scanner, and within 10 minutes the arm of the DEXA machine passes over your body while recording the results of your report.
During the time the arm is passing over your body, the DEXA machine is using low dose x-rays to provide you the most accurate body composition available. The amount of radiation used by our DEXA machines is lower than how much radiation a person is exposed to on a sunny day.
Once the scan is finalized, your report is created and sent straight to you! In addition to the results of your bone density, we provide you with other important information such as your body composition and muscle mass. This can give you a better understanding of your overall health and identify any potential areas for improvement.
A bone density test is an essential tool in assessing bone health and preventing osteoporosis-related fractures. By following our simple preparation tips and undergoing regular DEXA scans, you can stay on top of your bone health and make informed decisions about your well-being.
